“Fall in love with someone
who feels like the warmth of the sun
on a cold January morning…”
- Nikita Gill
We were over the moon to be able to tie in an engagement session with Becca’s best friend Ali and her fiancé Jay, while we were back in Virginia for Christmas. And while we knew it would be beautiful given our gorgeous couple and the location of the picturesque Shenandoah Valley, I don’t think any of us could have bargained for what the weather had in store for us.
We know most couples dream of a sunny, dry wedding day, but the shots that came out of that snowy, grey January afternoon are some of our all-time favourites. We live in England, a country where the weather is often unpredictable (understatement of the year), but we fully believe that if you embrace your surroundings, no matter how mad they may seem, and are up for a bit of fun, you can walk away with something truly magical.
We were so happy Ali and Jay were up for an adventure in the winter wonderland. We spent the afternoon at Ali’s parents farm, drinking hot cocoa, racing through the snowy fields, piggyback rides in the orchards. We then drove (carefully) into downtown Staunton and spent the rest of the day wandering around the quaint snowy streets. There’s nothing better than a couple who is so in love and into each other they forget there’s a camera pointing at them, and that was what it was like watching Ali and Jay play in the snow, so wrapped up in each other, nothing else existed. We finished off the evening with a nightcap and nachos at the local mexican bar, where we snuck in some dreamy photos of these two by candle light (we told you, we’re ninjas).
Huge thank you to Ali and Jay for such a fun afternoon. We are so happy for you guys and can’t wait for your wedding in the autumn!
And without further ado, step into the streets of a sleepy, snowy, southern American town with two good friends who just happened to fall head over heels for each other…
